An introduction to the American roulette
The American roulette is one of the most popular variations of the game: its regulation is close to the one of its French counterpart, however its carpet and the configuration of the bets are different.
The American roulette is featured by a wheel composed of 30 compartment instead of 37 as in the French one. These compartments are numbered from 1 to 36, and coloured of red and black alternatively. There are then two green compartments with the numbers 0 and 00.
This variation of the game is less popular then the French one since the probabilities it offers players to win are lower. Indeed, if within a match of American roulette the white marble stops on the 00, all of the bets placed by the players are lost.
Goal of the American roulette
The goal of the American roulette is the same as in other variations of the game: to bet on the winning number and colour, announced by the croupier as soon as the wheel and the white marble have stopped.
Proceeding of the American roulette
The croupiers and the supervisors around the carpet are in charge of assuring the good proceeding of the game. The number of players is unlimited and each player has got a pile of chips of a specific colour to not create confusion between the players.
- Once all of the players have placed their first bet, the croupier says the popular sentence “no more bets”.
- S/he needs to make the wheel turn counter clockwise and the white marble clockwise.
- As soon as the marble stops on a numbered compartment, the croupier announces the winning compartment.
Betting in American roulette
In order to get familiar with the carpet of the American roulette and with its specific jargon, you should know that we talk about “top line” or “5 first numbers bets”, to indicate the first 5 numbers in the upper part of the chart, which are 0, 00 , 1, 2, and 3.
As for the game forms and the bets, they are the same as in the French and the English roulette. You can find in particular the Straight Up bets, the Split bets or the Carré bets, which are the most popular and convenient.
