Solts Glossary
B
Bank game
Type of slot machine. Gradually and according to your playing, you collect credits stocked in the bank. You can use them only if you obtain a specific combination. Your goal is indeed to continue playing until you manage to unblock your bonus, since if you leave the machines before getting them, you lose them.
Bankroll
Your game budget. You should avoid to consider your whole bank account as your bankroll, because you risk in this way to lose everything you have. You should set your budget before you start playing and, if you lose, stop at that point.
Bet one
Button which allows you to add a credit and so to select an additional winning line.
Bet max
It means playing the maximum. It is also a button that allows you to select in one go, the maximal bet allowed by the machine, so that you avoid to add credits one by one. When there is a progressive jackpot, it can be got only placing the bet max.
C
Comp
They have sometimes other names. They are the same things as loyalty points. They are offered by the casino gradually and in relation to your playing and they can make you win additional credit or specific prizes.
G
Game bonus
It is available on video slot machines. If you obtain certain symbols, you can enter the game bonus, which has nothing to do with the machine itself and appears on a screen on its side. It will allow you to get additional credits.
H
House advantage
It is the opposite of the payout percentage. This is the percentage won by the casino on average in the long run. Certain games give more considerable advantages to the house (which means that they are less advantageous for you).
L
Line (winning or paying)
Some slot machines have a single game line, others have several (generally between 3 and 25). A winning line is a line on which you have bet a credit (since it is not necessary to play on every line of a machine), and so on which you can hope to win something. If a combination appears on a line that is not active, you do not win anything.
O
One-armed bandit
Synonym of “slot machine”. The name comes from the lever that need to be bent in order to make the rollers turn.
P
Payout rate
The percentage of bet going to the player, in the long run and on average. For example, if you play 100 dollars on a slot machine with a payout rate of the 96%, mathematically speaking, you are going to take 96 dollars back. You better play slot machines with high payout rates. The fact that the payout rates in the casinos are verified by an independent organisations are a proof of safety and responsibility.
Progressive Jackpot
Proposed by the majority of the slot machines. It is a jackpot created by players’ additional bets and grows little by little until someone gets it. They are often quite considerable amounts.
R
Registration bonus
Welcome bonus offered by online casinos, when you register on their website or when you make your first deposit. It is sometimes necessary to enter a specific code to use the bonus and they are often offered with particular conditions.
S
Slot
English word for the French “machine à sous”. It is sometimes used also in France.
Symbols
The different pictures on the rollers, which need to be on a line to create a combination.
Symbols (Wild)
Special symbols which can replace any other to create a combination. Often they also allow players to get the progressive jackpot (it is generally a matter of making a complete line of jokers, on the last winning line).
Symbols (Scatter)
Scatter is the English word for the French “éparpillé”. These symbols allow you to win a special prize (often the access to the game bonus), when it appears on the screen a certain number of times. However, as its name indicates, it does not need to be created on an active line: it can be made wherever in the screen, it is valid anyway.
