Blackjack Hi Lo 13 European is a variation of the European Blackjack. The game principle is this based on the rules of the European Blackjack, with some additional subtleties.

The first distinctive feature of this variation is the “side-bet”, consisting in a bet that is parallel to the ongoing game. It is the Hi Lo 13 bet. It consists in betting, after the distribution of the first two cards, an amount of money that is equal to the total points of the two cards. You can bet saying that the amount is lower than 13, higher than 13 or the same as 13.

When you play Hi Lo 13 Blackjack, you do not need to act much differently than you would do playing European Blackjack, you bet normally and whenever you wish you place an additional bet and ask for a “side-bet”. Thus, if you win, the wins are accumulated.

This type of bet is separated from the other classical bets of the game and, indeed these bets are placed in the gaps between other bets and the chips are on the left side of the table.

As aforementioned, it is the two first cards to be taken into account for the “sidebet”.

You thus have 3 possibilities of bet:

• You can have the “Hi” if your turn is higher than 13.
• You can have the “Lo” if your turn is lower than 13.
• You can have “13” if your turn has a total amount of 13 points.

We have to consider that each card keep its value, apart from the Ace which is counted as 1.

The gains of the “side-bet” come as additional to the other gains and are defined as follows:

• The “Hi” and the “Lo” are paid 1/1.
• The “13” is paid 10/1.

This variation of Blackjack is played with two sabot of 52 cards. The rules of the European Blackjack are taken into account in this variation, a part from the “side-bet”, which we have explored together. Simply, as for the payments: a classic win is paid 1/1, the “side-bet” is paid 2/1 and the Blackjack 3/1.
